Hoverfly Volucella zonaria

Hi all, one of the Uk's largest Hoverflies, Volucella zonaria
Taken in August '09 feeding on Echinops (Globe Thistle)

An excellent macro shot Tony. Both crops work well for me, although if pushed I think I prefer the second. :D

Fantastic image! Sharp, colourful and it makes me feel warmer just looking at it :) As to the crop, I think somewhere between the two (a bit off the left from the first one).

Razor sharp - a beautiful image whatever crop you choose.
I kind of prefer the first angle but thats just me liking contextual shots generally I guess

I missed this one the first time round Tony. What beautiful detail! I like the first one best, but the second crop does show off just how well you've captured this little beastie.
