February 2010 POTM - "In flight"

A revised format based on a monthly theme!

February 2010 POTM - "In flight"

Postby mjmw on Tue Feb 02, 2010 1:14 pm

This theme shouldn't need much introduction - any images of birds in flight, wild or captive. As this should be a popular theme we will limit the entries to images created this month only. Normally it is images from the past year but lets encourage you to get out with your camera!

How to enter: Post one image as a reply to this thread before midnight 21st February. Only one entry per member or associate.

Judging: A voting poll will be posted after the 21st February for members to vote. The moderators may have to make an initial selection, depending on the number of entries.

There is no prize, just the honour and glory from creating the photo of the month.

Some simple rules:

- Normal image adjustment is allowed: for example cropping, sharpening, levels etc. No composite images - that is, images created from two or more files.
- Photo to have been created since 1st February 2010.
- Basic technical data must be included - camera, lens, exposure data and date the photo was created. The easiest way to do this is with the photo's Exif data - it gets displayed automatically.
- Entries should be added as replies to this thread and can be posted from now until midnight on 21st February (UK time).
- One entry per member, once posted you can not change the image except to meet entry criteria.

Remember, this is meant to be a bit of fun and encouragement to get out with your camera!

PS. We still need more ideas for competition themes, so post your ideas on this thread.

Surprised there are no entries from HCT yet - just to clarify, this is open to wild and captive birds.

Hi Mark, my guess is that they are waiting to post a bit nearer the end date, so they have the best choice of pic's . as for me, i cannot get to HCT during Feb, so i'm looking for some Ducks in flight. Just need the weather to be a bit kinder on my days off !!!!!!

Well here is my offering. feb has been pretty dire for me on my few days off, rain or fog, but mainly rain which hasn't been very inspiring. So i've had to dig deep to find something in flight.

There were 5 Shoveler's milling around the lake and then one of them would explode into the air and fly about 30 meters before spashing down. then the others would follow. very fast action.

Taken on the 5th Feb 2010. Canon 1D mkIII + 600mm + 1.4tc resting on bean bag. F6.3, 1/3200sec, iso800. EV metering, AE exposure, +1.3/4 exposure comp. AI servo, single shot. daylight WB.

Cropped a bit, levels, USM & resize for web.

The closing date is very clearly stated in the announcement at the top of the thread...
